The Experimental Film Workshop is organized by NISI MASA European Network of Young Cinema, during Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival BIEFF, between March 14th – 20th. 

Nisi Masa

During the 7-day workshop, 30 young filmmakers, visual artists, musicians and performers, from Austria, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Brazil, Columbia, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany,  Great Britain, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Hungary, aged 18 to 35, will be guided by tutors and will create short cinematic experiments that will premiere on the very last day of the festival. The working method of the workshop is collaboration, reflection and sharing with fellow participants, with the aim of learning, exploring and developing creativity together.
This year’s edition approaches, encourages and supports the technique of making a 360° / VR (Virtual Reality) film, in which Bucharest will play the main role. For a heightened quality of the end result as well as for ensuring the continuity of our young participants’ activities, they will benefit from specialized classes on story creativity through sound and image, and a practical guide to successful freelancing, from the invited tutors.

Coordinators: Sorina Ioana Diaconu, the initiator and manager of the project, NISI MASA collaborator and member of the international kino movement and Vlad Andrei Ghinea, director an double alumnus of the NISI MASA workshop, co-founder of the independent production company mc2 film.

Tutors: Edina Csüllög (www.edinacsullog.com), Hungarian director and producer, based in Estonia, the creator of the Fino-Ugric Film Festival, founder of NISI MASA Estonia and the Fino-Ugric film fund; Adela Muntean (www.transcinemaexpress.com), transmedia director and researcher developing creative concepts that fall within the documentary genre, awarded a Master’s Degree graded excellent and the professional qualification of Media Designer at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest, Hungary (2015); Francesco Berta (www.francescoberta.com), Italian composer and visual artist, based in London, alumnus of the NISI MASA workshop in 2014; Mihai Pătrașcu, CEO and founder of VrView (www.vrview.ro), a company that focuses on 360 creative video and virtual reality app development. Alongside the four tutors, the participants will interact with a diverse community of local artists and musicians.

The three previous editions of the workshop (November 2012, December 2013 and December 2014) have brought together NISI MASA, BIEFF, The National University of Theatre and Film, National University of Arts, Radio GrooveOn, Refresh Vision, Cinelabs România, Hostel Doors and Ceainăria Cinci, Cetatea Artelor, Radio DelaHaze, The CAN, Carol 53, Elisabeta, The French Institute, Balassi Institute, Control Club and J’ai Bistrot as partners and supporters. NISI MASA is a European network of associations present in 26 countries.
